Homework & Prep Week 1: Prezi Presentation (Formats and Technical Cinematography)

Title of Assignment: The Features of Single Camera Production

There are 3 sections to this

Pass: Examine the examples, Describe and outline 
Merit: Explain purpose with detailed examples

Prep Task:
Read over the slides, define and collect examples of Single and Multi-camera production (use the Prezi below to help you)

1. What is a single camera production? Generally speaking what are the advantages of single camera productions? Give examples of productions that are traditionally shot using single camera. (e.g feature films such as Django Unchained etc)- read the link below which explains this well. . .
2. Describe what a multi camera production is and what are the advantages of shooting some products in this way? Give examples of products that are traditionally shot using multi camera set ups. (e.g Live events such as concerts and sports, studio based shows such as Jeremy Kyle, This Morning etc)







Format and Genres typically shot using single camera techniques:

Homework: Look at the sequences from Breaking Bad (below) Present this on your blog via a Prezi with embedded videos and images from Youtube. 

1. Formats are the ways in which different single camera productions are presented or packaged.

What is a series (this link describes how the BBC describes different formats to prospective writers) and what is a serial or single drama? Which is Breaking Bad?

2. Technical- Camera: (to deal with this section well it will be important to take screen grabs) 

Find examples of different camera shot sizes used in Breaking Bad and explain their effect
this production uses a wide variety of camera positions, angles and movements to good effect. Find examples of movement such as tracking, zooms and crash zooms, interesting camera angles and positions.

Camera angles are used to describe and show different parts of the narrative/story. Explain how they do this and the benefits of using particular shots for particular purposes. e.g Extreme long shots (even filmed from a helicopter) are used for establishing shots or to set the scene.


3 Lighting:
Find examples of different types of lighting in Breaking Bad and explain the effect.
